About Us
The Constitution Project (TCP) is an ever-growing group of Democrats and Republicans, liberals and conservatives, whose mission is to promote constitutional rights and values by forging a non-ideological consensus aimed at sound legal interpretations and policy solutions. Founded in 1997, TCP is a Washington D.C.-based 501(c) 3, tax- exempt, nonprofit organization.
TCP addresses a variety of constitutional matters, including indigent defense, forensics, the death penalty, privacy and surveillance, government transparency and accountability, war powers, detainee treatment, and immigration reforms. Generally, TCP convenes a task force of respected experts with diverse professional backgrounds and political views to identify constitutional threats. These experts work together to create and widely promote consensus recommendations for meaningful reforms that safeguard our Constitution.
Our work includes publishing and promoting substantive reports and policy statements; testimony, policy and advocacy statements before Congress, state legislatures, and other policymakers; the filing of influential amicus curiae briefs in federal and state courts; outreach to national and local media; and hosting panel discussions, online debate forums, and other public education events and programs.
