The Mesa Refuge is delighted to announce a new program supported by the Jacob and Valeria Langeloth Foundation.
The mission of the Langeloth Foundation is to fund programs that address the health of individuals who, because of barriers to accessing care, experience poor and sub-optimal health, including: those with no or severely limited income, cultural differences, lack of English language skills, lack of health insurance or inadequate health insurance, limited access to health care services, mental illness, substance abuse, homelessness, incarceration, and exposure to trauma.
The Langeloth fellowship will provide a two-week residency to a writer/journalist working on current or emerging practices, policy issues and advocacy related to the physical or mental health issues facing the following populations:
- Individuals involved with the criminal justice system;
- Immigrant detainees;
- The homeless;
- People experiencing chronic violence; and
- Veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.
The Mesa Refuge is a writers’ retreat located in Point Reyes Station, CA. It is one of the few retreats in the United States that supports people writing about nature, economics and social equity. Since 1997, we have granted residencies to over 500 writers.
Our Spring Residency Session runs from March 29 – May 23, 2013. During this time we offer two-week residencies to writers who need the solitude essential to creative work. A Mesa Refuge residency is an opportunity to develop ideas and projects so that they may be published and transformed into practice.
The deadline for applications is December 14, 2012.
