Jailing Still Possible in D.C. for 160 Misdemeanors, Like Lewd Posters

Washington, D.C.'s City Council repealed a law that allowed police officers to jail people for driving with expired license plates, but the city ignored 160 other misdemeanor offenses for which officers can take suspects into custody, the Washington Post reports.

The full list was included in a 2005 police document outlining the proper procedure for "violation citations." Among the offenses involved: operating a radar detector, storing building materials in an alley, climbing a street lamp, leaving your dog’s excrement untended, digging for fishing bait in a major park, lewd posters, and "bees within 500 feet of human habitation."
