Washington Times Op-Ed: Fewer Guns Mean More Violence, Not Less

January 24, 2013 09:19:22 am

In a Washington Times commentary, Bill Wilson, president of Americans for Limited Government, writes that new gun control proposals have nothing to do with stopping gun violence. "Instead it’s about  the political class in Washington chipping away at our ability to protect our families and preserve our property," he says. "Make no mistake: These proposed restrictions will do nothing to prevent future school shootings — or any other kind of shootings — but they will go a long way toward disarming law-abiding citizens. That will lead to more, not less violence."

He says the country should instead be focused on America's gang problem. Wilson continues, "So if reducing gun violence isn’t the objective of anti-Second Amendment legislation (and judging by the data, it couldn’t be), what is the goal? It is to suppress the potential for popular resistance, naturally. After all, if you think government is out of control now, just wait and see what happens when we’ve been stripped of the protections in the Bill of Rights."
