A probation report on John Gardner III, the suspect in the death of California teenager Chelsea King, offers details about his family history and the medications he took over time for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, reports the San Diego Union-Tribune. A judge ordered the probation report unsealed at the request of the Union-Tribune and its media partner, KGTV Channel 10.
Gardner, 30, is also the focus of an investigation into the death of teenager Amber Dubois, whose remains were recovered Saturday. He was released from prison in 2005 after serving five years of a six-year sentence for molesting a girl, 13. A spokeswoman for the state Department of Mental Health, said after reviewing the probation report that Gardner would not have benefitted from sex offender treatment in 2000 because he thought he did nothing wrong. “You can’t compel treatment and have it be effective,” she said.
