FBI Obtained 2,000 Phone Call Records Illegally

The FBI illegally collected 2,000 U.S. telephone call records between 2002 and 2006 by invoking terrorism emergencies that did not exist or  persuading phone companies to provide them says the Washington Post. FBI officials issued approvals after the fact to justify their actions.

A Justice Department inspector general's report due soon is expected to conclude that the FBI violated the law with its emergency requests. Nearly all of them apparently involved terrorism investigations. FBI general counsel Valerie Caproni tols the Post that the bureau violated the Electronic Communications Privacy Act when agents invoked nonexistent emergencies to collect records.

I’m italian and I don’t know the real situation on USA past Twin Towers attacks, however I think that’s important FBI and CIA collect all information about facts that’s happening around the world. It’sn’t nice to see 100.000 people falling down whole the Twin Towers, at the same all security agency need to respect the privacy of communications..
It isn’t so easy to protect and respect freedom. In Italy a lot of firms are using telephone intercept without reason…or so on…I mean…no reason to protect the italian citizens…only to defense their illegal business and to spy their workers, that’s not really correct. At least in Usa the Justice Department has concluded that’s illegal act, not so bad!
