The Center on Wrongful Convictions is dedicated to representing individuals who have been wrongfully convicted of crimes. It was begun at Northwestern University in 1998 under the auspices of Lawrence C. Marshall, a law professor. The group joined forces with the Innocence Project in 2000 to nationalize local projects in different states. Over 200 cases a month are sent to the Center but only 1% are actually handled due to staffing levels.

This organization seeks to educate the media and the public about issues surrounding capital punishment and to advocate for its disuse. There are a number of links to facts and statistics about how and why the death penalty is employed as well as listing further resources to consult about the topic. The Justice Project is comprised of military veterans seeking to reform capital punishment and the justice system at large. It attempts to accomplish this through educating the public, passing legislative measures and using litigation. In 2004 the group was influential in getting passed the Innocence Protection Act, a pioneering death penalty reform act.
