A new report by the National Insurance Crime Bureau finds that the number of "questionable claims" jumped 13 percent this year, from 36,743 in the first half of 2008 to 41,619 for the same period in 2009. The numbers include property, vehicle, commercial and casualty claims. But, according to reporting by the National Law Journal, some believe the NICB's claim is dubious. NLB quotes Phillip Sanov, a Texas attorney who represents plaintiffs, who calls the report "laughable...a smokescreen put out by the insurance industry in an effort to put out higher rates."
